Best of a Friend

Brett Isaac Fonfa, 26, a gifted writer, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 8, 2018. Brett was born April 20, 1991, in Las Vegas, to Andrew and Jodi Hale Fonfa. He was a brilliant young man that loved books, movies, music, sports and so much more. His thirst for knowledge and his love for life were some of his best qualities. He enjoyed introducing friends and strangers alike to his passions and his smile could light up any room. He utilized his writing talents in a variety of mediums, including marketing, screen plays, and poetry. He attended The Meadows School and graduated from Bishop Gorman High School. At the age of 15, he made the life-changing decision to attend Idyllwild Arts Academy for two years. This is where Brett truly discovered himself and enhanced his passion for music, writing, literature and poetry.

After two years in New York City studying creative writing at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at the New School, he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in English Literature at the University of San Diego. Brett was a New York Yankees fan and loved Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He was a self-proclaimed foodie who loved cooking and trying new recipes with the love of his life, Lauren. He and Lauren were together since age 17. In his 26 short years of life, Brett visited over 30 countries. He and Lauren spent extended periods of time in Hong Kong and China over the past five years.

Brett was an avid collector in his life, amassing a large number of vinyl records, comics, and shoes. He was a true "Pinball Wizard" and he set his highest score of over 250 million on the Simpsons Pinball Party he owned in his apartment. One of his more recent interests was being an early advocate of Blockchain technology and a big investor in Bitcoin. He is survived by his parents; sister, Haley Fonfa; brother, Evan Fonfa; soulmate, Lauren Viola; aunts, Renee Hale, Ann Fonfa and Gudrun Fonfa; so many people that loved and were so very proud of him, and most recently the lasting legacy of the Brett Fonfa Foundation.
